The Hunger Games
Blog Post #57
“I’m sorry so much burden fell on you…But if I had to put you through it again for this outcome - I would.”
These are the words of Plutarch Heavensbee to Katniss Everdeen in the book series adapted to the movie series, “The Hunger Games.”
I remember sitting in the movie theatre sobbing at his words.
Not because it was one of the final moments of the movie, but because I imagined Jesus speaking these words to me at the end of my life.
“I’m sorry…but if I had to put you through it again for this outcome - I would.”
God never promised that our life would be easy, but He did promise that if we stayed close to Him we would reach our Heavenly home. He does not delight in our struggles, but he allows us to endure them because He wants us to achieve this final outcome.
This thought helps me to persevere in prayer during those dark nights of the soul. The knowledge that God doesn’t delight in the struggle, but delights in the final result.
What struggles are you enduring? Remember that God sees. He knows. He cares. And He cries with you.
Why might God be allowing this pain to persist? Does He want you to grow in a specific virtue? Does He want you to set boundaries?
What is the final result He is hoping for? You being united with Him in Heaven.
And for this reason, persevere in prayer, even when it’s hard, even when you don’t have the words, even when you don’t feel His presence. Because He is with you, He has not forsaken you, and he says to you, “…if I had to put you through it again for this outcome - I would.”
