Transformational Tuesday

Blog Post #27

I am not a morning person. If you know me - you know this is an ugly truth.

In an attempt to transform myself into an early riser, I have taken to scrolling through Pinterest first thing in the morning. One, to allow the light from my phone to help raise me from a dead sleep. Hey, there is science to back this up!

Two, to be inspired by all the creativity and beauty that abounds on this sublime social media platform. And three, because, I believe Jesus speaks to me through Pinterest - and fortune cookies - but that’s a story for another time.

This Tuesday morning's scroll “sesh” (AKA session, I’m sorry to all the people who hate it when I abbreviate - ahem, my brother, Kyle) did not disappoint. Image after image, filled my imagination with ideas of painting brick white. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good brick, but, unlike people, not all brick was created equal. By the time I had taken 12 screen shots, I knew it was time to put on a pair of sweatpants and get painting.

In the living room of our sweet little home in the historic district there is a fireplace. This fireplace is outlined in brick. Setting my sights on turning it white, I pretended to be Picasso and painted away - after taping around the area, of course, I don’t trust myself that much!

After two days and a few coats, we had a completed creation. My husband and I stood in awe at the transformation that had occurred. Such a small space, such little effort, and still, such a dramatic change.

Remember earlier in this blog when I said that I feel Jesus speaks to me through Pinterest? Well, I felt Him speaking through this Pinterest project. If we give Him, even a small place to work, give Him even a little effort, He will produce dramatic changes in our lives.

What is an area of your life that could use a “fresh coat of paint” as it were? Invite Him in, and remember that God said in Revelation 21:5, “Behold, I make all things new.”

Feeling a little pessimistic? Recall the words of Henri Nouwen, “Do not despair, thinking that you cannot change yourself after so many years. Simply enter into the presence of Jesus as you are and ask Him to give you a fearless heart where He can be with you. You cannot make yourself different. Jesus came to give you a new heart, a new spirit, a new mind, and a new body. Let Him transform you by His love and so enable you to receive His affection in your whole being.”

Let the transformation take place!
